Africa Technology Transfer (T2) Conferences
Since inception in May 2001, ASANRA has successfully hosted nine (9) Africa Technology Transfer (T2) Conferences. The conferences have been providing a forum for government agencies and their representatives, academics, consultants, transport sector stakeholders, contractors and consultants from around the world and mainly Africa to discuss acute transportation needs and provide some of the solution to transportation needs.
The first Africa T2 Conference was held in Arusha, Tanzania from 23rd – 25th May 2001. It was hosted by Tanzania Transportation Technology Transfer Centre under the theme of “Technology Transfer in Road Transportation in Africa”
The second Africa T2 Conference was held in St. Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa from 20th – 23rd September 2005. The conference was hosted by KwaZulu Natal Department of Transport under the theme of: “Transportation Technology Transfer in Africa’s Renaissance”
Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Malawi hosted the third Africa T2 Conference in Mangochi, from 23rd– 25th May 2007. The theme for the third conference was “Technology Transfer for Africa’s Sustainable Transportation System”
The forth Africa T2 Conference was held in Windhoek, Namibia from 31st August to 4th September 2009, hosted by Roads Authority of Namibia: “Capacity Building Opportunities in the Transport Sector”
The firth Africa T2 Conference was held in Arusha Tanzania from 21st – 25th November 2011. It was hosted by Ministry of Work in Tanzania through TanT2 Centre and the theme was “Developing Safe, Reliable and Sustainable Transportation Systems for Socio-Economic Development in Africa."
University of Botswana through BwT2 Centre hosted the sixth Africa T2 Conference in Gaborone from 4th – 8th March 2013, under the theme of; “Effective Management of Transport Infrastructure for Economic Recovery in Africa”
The 7th Africa T2 Conference held in Bulawayo Zimbabwe from 11th – 15th May 2015, hosted by The Zimbabwe Ministry of Transport & Infrastructural Development through ZimT2 Centre: “Mobilising Resources for Transport Infrastructural Development and Maintenance for Poverty Alleviation in Africa”
The eighth Africa T2 Conference was an event that was held at Avani Hotel in Livingstone, Zambia from 8th – 10th May 2017. It was hosted by The Zambia, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development and the theme was “Linking Africa through Sustainable Transport Infrastructure Development”.
The Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development, Honourable Ronald Kaoma Chitotela, officially opened the conference and the Permanent Secretary for Housing and Infrastructure Development, Engineer Charles Mushota.
The conference attracted Two hundred and Sixty Three (263) delegates from 13 countries in Africa and other countries worldwide. Delegates were from Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, People`s Republic of China, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Madagascar, Tanzania, Uganda, UK and Zimbabwe.
The 9th Africa Transportation Technology Transfer (T2) Conference was an event that took place from 21st – 24th of May 2024 in Maputo the capital of Mozambique. The Conference was officially opened by the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Honourable Carlos Mesquita, the conference was closed by the President of ASANRA and General Director of the National Roads Administration of Mozambique, Engineer Elias Paulo.
Two hundred and thirteen (213) delegates from 11 countries in Africa and other countries worldwide attended the 9th Africa T2 Conference. Delegates who attended the Conference were from Angola, Botswana, India, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, United States of America, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
